My figurative ceramics are at present based around an exploration of the complexities of human communication. Speech does not always convey exactly what we might need or wish to say. Nor is it always received in the way that we might desire. Communication may also be through other ways such as the use of certain signs and symbols with which we might adorn our bodies. Some symbols could be considered as personal totems. All my pieces are individually hand modelled using Earthstone S.T. clay. They are fired to 1060°C initially and then finished using a mixture of oxides, underglaze colours and a transparent earthenware glaze. The final firing is to 1100°C. Some pieces are sited on a variety of clay or wood bases and are secured in place with metal rods and resin. Some work is finished with a satin varnish.
