Originally from Japan, Keiko obtained a BA Art and Design at Leeds Metropolitan University in 1999. Oriental influences are strong in her work, which springs from her long involvement with Japanese calligraphy and textiles. She expresses her feeling for nature and the human spirit in an abstract way, using calligraphy brushes to emphasise the spontaneous movement of line. Her works have been selected by international competitions such as the Fletcher Challenge Ceramics Award, New Zealand, the Mashiko International Pottery Contest and Mino in Japan. She exhibits in the UK and abroad, and was invited to attend the International Summer Workshops in Zlakusa, Serbia (2003 and 2004) and in Tokoname, Japan (2005). Her work is handbuilt, slab construction, textured often slip-painted before assembly, porcelain and T-material (50/50), 1260degC oxidation.Visitors are welcome by appointment.
