photo Coxwold Pottery is a small country workshop established in 1965 by Peter and Jill Dick. Together they make a wide variety of work for kitchen, table and garden. Around half the production is earthenware, thrown and decorated with lively coloured slips. But these days more pots are fired to stoneware in the reducing gas kiln, which gives quieter more subtle glaze quality. Jill is well known for her range of green/cream serving dishes while Peter, who trained with Michael Cardew and Ray Finch, greatly enjoys making larger platters and more unusual pieces often with modelled animal motifs.
The village of Coxwold lies in pleasant countryside some 20 miles North of York. The showroom and pottery garden are open to the public, but it is essential to phone in advance of a visit.
